Seed Saving
Description:
Join Seeds of Diversity’s Executive Director Bob Wildfong as he guides you through the process of saving your own seeds. Everdale’s seed gardens will be your classroom. We have lots of hands-on activities in store for you. You’ll learn the basics of how to collect and save vegetable, fruit, ornamentals and herb seeds; hand pollinating, germination, and recommended isolation distances.
Instructor: Bob Wildfong of Seeds of Diversity
Bob has been an active backyard and commercial seed saver since the beginnings of the Canadian heritage seed movement in the 1980s. He has led over 60 seed saving workshops for backyard gardeners and commercial seed growers, showing them how to preserve their favourite heritage varieties, and multiply seed stocks for growing, selling, and sharing the horticultural treasures of Canadian gardens. His most recent work is the creation of Seeds of Diversity’s Canadian Seed Library, a national program to collect and preserve the biodiversity of Canadian food plants. Bob is also the chair of the Canadian Pollinator Protection Initiative, and the president of the Culinary Historians of Canada.
